A Little MS with a Little MSW

A Mid-Life Slant on Disability and Education

Insta Divinity?

I follow a couple of pastors on social media who make the little southern Baptist in me twinge. I do not identify as Southern Baptist and I have never been a member of a church; however, I live in the South, and both of my parents were raised Baptist, as well as all of my aunts, uncles, and cousins, as far as the eye can see. Picture my childhood as a little heathen dipped in bigotry on holidays and special occasions.

About these pastors…one likes to stir the pot by posting blatantly controversial pictures/topics and regularly engaging in arguments and debates with his followers. The other likes his looks. A lot. There is not a single person in my social media orbit who posts selfies as much as this man does. Is he bad looking? No. But shouldn’t he be using his platform as a virtual pulpit? I don’t know. Can you imagine Jesus at the head of the table during The Last Supper, cajoling the apostles for a group selfie?

Times have changed oh so much and the sanctity of certain professions has been washed away by the blurring of professional/personal boundaries that friend requests created. I am active on social media, and as you regular readers know, my mind can be a funky place. I keep my professional life separate for that reason. To the pastor constantly posting selfies: you cute, but you ain’t that cute. Go read your bible. To the pot stirrer: Trump called and thinks you’d be a good match for Twitter. Excuse me…The Platform Formerly Known As Twitter.

About Me

I have Clinically Isolated Syndrome. It’s like MS without the ‘multiple’ part. My brain has one sclerosis. Sclerosi? Anyway, it’s a doozy. I am also a therapist working toward independent clinical social work licensure. I have a husband, two adult children, and two poodles. I love to read, write, and exercise. I strive to eat something green and to make someone smile every day!
