My birthday is a couple weeks away. I have almost survived 48 years on this planet. One of my favorite things to do around this time is to reflect on my new experiences and adventures of the past year. The major new things I can think of in the past 12 months, include:
- I got COVID for the first time
- I visited Nova Scotia & Maine
- I became a mental health therapist (!)
- I participated in a pinball tournament
- I tried paddleboarding
- I officially became an empty nester (I can include this because I am dropping my baby off at college two days before my birthday, so it officially falls within this twelve months)
What would I like to experience in the next twelve months?
As silly as it is, the first thing that comes to mind is I would like to try pickleball. The sport has exploded, and I love activities that require good eye-hand coordination, so it sounds like a fun fit for me! My husband is not as enthused, but hopefully I can cajole him onto a court sometime in the near future.
I would like to use the inflatable kayaks we bought two or three years ago that have been sitting in our garage. (We put one of them in our pool once, last summer, but that doesn’t count!)
As always, I would like to visit somewhere I’ve never been before. High on my list is the LSU campus since it is now my alma mater. New Orleans is also close by, and I’ve never been there, either, so maybe I’ll try to get that in the works soon.
I am intrigued by the Holocaust so I would really like to visit the Holocaust Museum in Washington DC. I don’t read or watch a lot of historical things, really, but I do enjoy a good historical fiction novel. Both my mom and husband are huge history buffs – I am not sure why I enjoy fictionalized accounts more than material based on actual events.
I hope my next year of life is a good one, filled with health and happiness. I hope to spread light and love, and to continue to guide my children as they learn to navigate adulthood. I hope to spend a little more time in this blog, honing my craft and growing my readership. Thanks to all of your for sticking with me for the past year!
