A Little MS with a Little MSW

A Mid-Life Slant on Disability and Education

Welcome to the Family, Kid.

This is a picture of my fridge in its current state. Some of you will have absolutely no idea what this is in reference to and that’s ok.

I was 10 years old when a movie about a singing Venus Flytrap was released. Overnight, Little Shop of Horrors became a much wilder success than even the creators could have imagined.

The plant’s favorite phrase to utter throughout the film is “Feed me, Seymour!” And just like that, those three little words were permanently implanted into the psyches of an entire generation.

Growing up, my children were rarely able to mention hunger without hearing those words. Fast forward to today and rewind to the above photo: my oldest child shared a YouTube video of the movie with her fiancee, which prompted him to draw the cute little plant (from memory!!) on our dry erase board upon seeing the words “Feed me, Seymour” in my playful script!!

As a parent of adult children, you have these snippets of time wherein you receive validation that you raised your kids right. One of these, for me, happened when I saw the image of a movie character from a nearly 40-year-old film drawn by the hand of my future son-in-law.

Welcome to the family, kid.

About Me

I have Clinically Isolated Syndrome. It’s like MS without the ‘multiple’ part. My brain has one sclerosis. Sclerosi? Anyway, it’s a doozy. I am also a therapist working toward independent clinical social work licensure. I have a husband, two adult children, and two poodles. I love to read, write, and exercise. I strive to eat something green and to make someone smile every day!
