A Little MS with a Little MSW

A Mid-Life Slant on Disability and Education

My Dresser Tells a Story

Bells, paintings, photos, flowers, and a jar of f*cks. A representation of new beginnings, beautiful endings, love, and a small collection of that other four-letter word,

Mementos can sometimes be seen as useless clutter; they don’t have much place in a minimalist’s life, for sure. While I agree that the meaning of life is found in our relationships with others and not in material things, the things can be a reminder of those relationships. Mementos with meaning.

My bedroom dresser adornments hold so much more value to me than the naked eye or random person could possibly know.

Triggers don’t always have to be negative. Mementos with meaning can trigger feelings of warmth, safety, and joy.

Life is fleeting, and I don’t know what the dresser tops of tomorrow will hold. I do know that I feel so unbelievably lucky to possess the mementos that sparked this post and to know the people they represent.

About Me

I have Clinically Isolated Syndrome. It’s like MS without the ‘multiple’ part. My brain has one sclerosis. Sclerosi? Anyway, it’s a doozy. I am also a therapist working toward independent clinical social work licensure. I have a husband, two adult children, and two poodles. I love to read, write, and exercise. I strive to eat something green and to make someone smile every day!
