Dates
Today is my ex-husband’s birthday and the date of my now husband’s brother’s death. I know there’s a 1 in 365 chance that things like this will happen when it comes to dates, but it still intrigues me when significant people and significant dates collide. I never met my would-be brother-in-law. He passed away five Continue reading

Take a Hike
We recently purchased a State Park pass, fueled by the bright idea to become regular hikers. I love nature, and being out in nature, but when I take my two left feet out on a trail littered with rocks and roots, bloodshed and broken bones are predicted by psychics far and wide. Two gifts not Continue reading

October 1, 2023
I passed my master’s level licensing exam last week, so I am officially licensed without a degree! I’ve also started applying to some jobs as I await the Phd program verdicts. It’s weird to think about the prospect of moving at this point in my life. I’ve never lived anywhere other than my hometown. I Continue reading

The Company We Keep
I have always surrounded myself with intelligent, Type A people. Some of my closest friends, my ex husband, my now husband, and my boyfriend in between all have/had above-average IQ’s and OCD tenden- um, disorders… 🙂 I, on the other hand, am probably as Type B as one can get. I’m not sure if that Continue reading

Yellowjackets
Few shows really grab me. And the ones that do are seriously jacked up. The last time I was so engrossed in a show was The Handmaid’s Tale, if that tells you anything. It feels like I’ve been hijacked by the train wreck “can’t look away” syndrome that grips most of us when we pass Continue reading

First Love
My youngest experienced her first heartbreak this past week and it has been gut wrenching to watch, as a parent. I know it is an inevitable part of life, and I know that with great love comes great pain, but it still makes me want to punch her ex in the face. That’s really it. Continue reading

Tampons and Nuns
So, I’m perusing the homepage of my laptop, my eyes gliding over all the usual headlines, from sports to politics to beauty to death to nuns. Wait, nuns? Yes, nuns. Nuns and TAMPONS. Now, I will have to plead the utmost ignorance on life in the nunnery. I know they are Catholic. I know they Continue reading

Bedside Manner
My sister made a statement to me recently after a rude encounter with a hospital employee: “You can be brilliant AND kind.” That’s not to say that everyone in the medical field is brilliant, but I digress. Her statement was in reference to a punk-ass resident that needed to have his face surgically removed from Continue reading

Zen Gardens
I think zen gardens are aptly named. There is something wildly cathartic about using a miniature rake to create designs in a tabletop sandbox. My favorite college professor had one on his office desk. He passed away recently and I think he would be pleased to know that my memories of him are tinged with Continue reading
About Me
I have Clinically Isolated Syndrome. It’s like MS without the ‘multiple’ part. My brain has one sclerosis. Sclerosi? Anyway, it’s a doozy. I am also a therapist working toward independent clinical social work licensure. I have a husband, two adult children, and two poodles. I love to read, write, and exercise. I strive to eat something green and to make someone smile every day!
